Kazakhstan Partners with Nvidia and Firebird.ai to Build $10 Billion "Data Center Valley"
In a strategic move that underscores its ambition to become a global digital hub, the government of Kazakhstan has signed a landmark $10 billion agreement with American chip giant Nvidia and Armenian-American cloud company Firebird.ai to develop "Data Center Valley" in the northern Pavlodar region of the country. This initiative represents a critical step in Kazakhstan's broader efforts to transform itself into a global digital center.

The $10 billion deal will be implemented in two phases. The first phase, valued at $5 billion, will include the construction of a 125-megawatt (MW) data center facility. Recently, Kazakhstan has adopted a development strategy titled "Digital Qazaqstan" to guide the country's transformation into a cognitive economy by 2029.
"Digital Qazaqstan represents the fundamental transformation of Kazakhstan into a new development model, where data, artificial intelligence (AI), and modern technologies become the foundation of administrative governance and the transformation of the country's digital ecosystem from automating individual services to integrated, data-based governance," according to a government statement.
The Data Center Valley
A key component of this digital strategy is the creation of an AI and data center hub. The newly signed agreements with Nvidia and Firebird.ai aim to realize this vision, with an expected launch date of 2027. Kazakhstan officials have dubbed the initiative "Data Center Valley," which will be located near the northern city of Ekibastuz.
Energy Infrastructure
Kazakhstan currently faces nationwide energy shortages. However, officials have indicated that the area surrounding the data center is expected to have sufficient capacity to meet growing energy demands—300 MW currently, with plans to reach 1 gigawatt annually in the coming years.

"Kazakhstan is systematically building national infrastructure for AI development. The 'Data Center Valley' project will serve as a primary platform for the new AI-token economy," said Zhaslan Madiyev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of AI and Digital Development of Kazakhstan.
"We estimate that the implementation of the project will generate at least $3 billion in annual export revenue, create new jobs, attract global technology companies, and strengthen Kazakhstan's position as an important digital center in Eurasia," Madiyev added at the signing ceremony on June 15.
