If a major incident occurs at the national petroleum depot system during the rainy season, will the current response work be enough to protect billions of liters of fuel and tens of thousands of workers throughout the system?
On June 15, 2026 in the morning, at the Headquarters of Vietnam Petroleum Group Petrolimex in Hanoi, the Conference summarizing natural disaster prevention and search and rescue work in 2025, and implementing tasks in 2026 was held in a live and online format to member units nationwide.
The event was attended by group leaders, member units and representatives of departments in charge of safety, operations, logistics and emergency response in the Petrolimex system.
According to images published from the conference, Mr. Luu Van Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Member of the Board of Directors, General Director of Vietnam Petroleum Group Petrolimex gave the opening speech and directed the key contents for the 2026 period.
OVERVIEW OF CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
Content Time
Summary of disaster prevention and control work for the year2025
Deploying new tasks in 2026
Form of organization: Live combined with online
Main location: Petrolimex Hanoi Headquarters
Opening speaker Mr. Luu Van Tuyen
HOW IMPORTANT IS DISTRICT PROTECTION AND CONSTRUCTION FOR THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY
Unlike many normal production fields, the petroleum industry always has a high risk when natural disasters, storms, floods, landslides, tornadoes or infrastructure incidents occur.
Just one incident at a warehouse, import-export port or pipeline system can have an impact
β’ National fuel supply chain
β’ Transportation and logistics activities
β’ Industrial production
β’ Fuel supply for electricity
β’ Environmental safety
Therefore, maintaining a state of readiness is always considered a vital task for large energy enterprises.
MAIN HAZARDS TO PETROLEUM SYSTEMS
Risk Impact level
Strong storm Very high
Flooding of Cao warehouse
Landslide in high mountainous area
Widespread power outages Moderate to high
Fire and explosion incidents Very high
Fuel transport disruption High
In the context of increasingly complex climate change, extreme weather events are appearing with greater frequency. This increases the need for forecasting, prevention and emergency response capabilitiestop priority of energy businesses.
WHAT CHALLENGES IS THE PETROLIMEX SYSTEM FACING
Petrolimex is currently the largest petroleum enterprise in Vietnam with a network of warehouses, stores and member units stretching across the country.
This feature helps ensure the national fuel supply but also increases pressure on natural disaster risk management in many different geographical areas.
From the Northern mountainous region where landslides often occur to the Central region directly affected by major storms or the Mekong Delta region facing the risk of flooding, each region requires a separate response plan.
TASK FOCUS IN 2026
According to the orientation discussed at the conference, the expected key contents include:
β Improve forecasting and early warning capacity
β Complete emergency response plans
β Strengthen rescue drills
β Periodically inspect warehouses and key infrastructure
β Training on-site response forces
β Apply digital technology in risk monitoring

NOTEWORTHY THINGS
This year's conference not only has the meaning of summarizing activities in 2025 but also shows the trend of large energy enterprises shifting from troubleshooting thinking to proactive risk management.
In a context where natural disasters are increasingly unpredictable and energy infrastructure plays a vital role in the economy, the ability to maintain continuous operation can determine the level of stability of the entire national fuel supply chain.
Are Vietnamese energy corporations ready for more extreme natural disaster scenarios in the future, or are there still gaps that need to be filled before a major incident actually occurs?
