A batch of damaged materials discharged from Dung Quat Oil Refinery is valued at just over 1.35 billion VND, but does it contain a large amount of metal, industrial equipment and recycled materials worth many times that after classification?
Vietnam's oil and gas industry has just recorded a notable auction when Vietnam Refining and Petrochemical Corporation organized the liquidation of two batches of waste materials generated during the production and maintenance process at Dung Quat Oil Refinery.
These are materials accumulated from operation, maintenance and repair activities during the period from March 16, 2025 to January 16, 2026. All assets are currently stored at Dung Quat Oil Refinery in Van Tuong commune, Quang Ngai province.

Why Is This Auction Lot Interested?
In the petrochemical refining industry, waste materials are not simply industrial waste.
Many materials, after being removed from the production line, still contain large amounts of alloy steel, industrial stainless steel, copper, aluminum, electrical cables, industrial valves, mechanical equipment and materials that can be recycled or recovered.
For businesses specializing in large-scale industrial scrap purchasing, such shipments often bring significant profit margins thanks to in-depth sorting and recycling capabilities.
What's special about Lot 2?
Unlike Lot 1, Lot 2 involves hazardous waste.
Participating units are required to have a license to transport and treat hazardous waste according to current regulations.
Waste Code Required
HW Code Description
190601 Waste lead batteries
170204 Waste oil
This causes the number of units eligible to participate to be significantly narrowed compared to normal scrap auctions.
What is the scale of Dung Quat Oil Refinery?
Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company is currently the enterprise operating Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Vietnam's first oil refinery.
The factory has a capacity of millions of tons of crude oil each year and regularly generates large amounts of suppliesPeriodic maintenance, general repair and equipment replacement.
Every major maintenance cycle creates a significant amount of liquidated materials, thereby forming industrial asset auctions like this one.
Market Perspective
Impact Factor
Industrial metal prices remain high. Increasing the attractiveness of auction lots
Demand for industrial equipment recycling Increasing competition
Strict environmental regulations Restrict participants to Lot 2
Oil and gas production activities are stable. Industrial scrap sources continue to arise
For businesses specializing in metal recovery and industrial recycling, this is not just a regular asset auction but also an opportunity to access materials originating from one of Vietnam's key industrial facilities.
The notable question is that after classifying all the materials in these two shipments, how much higher will the actual recovered value be than the announced starting price of nearly 1.52 billion VND?
