Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project recorded many positive signals
On June 22, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Association delegation had a working session with the Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project Management Board to learn and share information about projects at Long Phu Power Center. The meeting recorded many positive signals about the progress and quality of this important project.
Introduction to Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project
Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project is one of Vietnam's key energy projects, built at Long Phu Power Center, Long Phu district, Soc Trang province. With a total investment of billions of dollars, the project has a design capacity of about 1,200 MW, using the world's most modern liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology.
The project is expected to make an important contribution to the national electricity system, ensure energy security and promote socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta region. This is also a pilot project in applying LNG technology to electricity production in Vietnam.
Details of the meeting
During the meeting, the representative of the Project Management Board presented in detail the implementation progress, the difficulties that have been overcome and the solutions that are being implemented. The Vietnam Petroleum Association delegation highly appreciated the efforts of the investor and construction units.
The parties had extensive discussions on technical issues, project management, and solutions to ensure labor safety and environmental protection. The working group also proposed a number of recommendations to further accelerate project progress and ensure project quality.
Positive signals from the project
Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project has recorded many significant progress in recent times:
- Complete 100% of main equipment processing at the factory
- Achieved 85% construction progress
- Complete installation of gas pipeline system
- The main equipment has been transported to the construction site and is ready for installation
- Ensure labor safety throughout the implementation process
Challenges and solutions
However, the project is also facing some challenges:
| Challenge | Solution |
|---|---|
| Impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on human resources | Enhance on-site training and application of automation technology |
| Raw material price fluctuations | Build flexible contracts and diversify suppliers |
| High requirements for technique and technology |
Future prospects
According to the plan, the Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project will be completed and put into commercial operation by the end of 2024. When in operation, the power plant will provide about 7-8 billion kWh/year to the national electricity system, meeting the electricity needs of about 3-4 million households.
Besides, the project also opens a new direction for Vietnam's electricity industry in using LNG - a cleaner energy source than coal. This is consistent with Vietnam's commitment at COP26 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Conclude
The fact that the Vietnam Oil and Gas Association Working Group highly appreciated the progress of the Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project is an important motivation for related parties. The project not only has economic significance but also has strategic value in ensuring national energy security and transition to clean energy.
Continuing efforts and close coordination, the Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project promises to be completed on schedule, making an important contribution to the sustainable development of Vietnam's energy industry.
