Will the mandatory sale of E10 gasoline nationwide put millions of old motorbikes at risk or is this actually a "super golden opportunity" for Petrolimex and BSR to increase revenue extremely strongly?
From June 1, 2026, Vietnam's petroleum market officially enters the biggest transition period in many years when E10 gasoline is deployed synchronously nationwide according to the roadmap of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This is not only an environmental story but also a restructuring of the entire fuel supply chain in Vietnam.
In this entire ecosystem, Petrolimex and BSR are emerging as the two businesses that benefit the most thanks to their advantages in blending infrastructure, logistics and domestic ethanol sources.
TABLE OF BUSINESSES BENEFITING BIG BENEFITS FROM E10 GASOLINE
Enterprise Main advantages
Petrolimex More than 2,800 gas stations, largest market share in Vietnam
BSR Actively prepares E10 at Dung Quat
PV OIL Nearly 1,000 stores deploy E10
Saigon Petro Southern regional distribution network
According to industry reports, Petrolimex has now completed the transformation of the E10 business system and recorded an increase in E10 consumption by about 40% during the pilot phase in Hanoi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City.
Meanwhile, BSR has sold the first batch of E10 RON95 with an output of about 12,000 m³ from Dung Quat Oil Refinery and set a supply target of about 80.0 m³.00–100,000 m³ per month.
MARKET SIZE ESTIMATION TABLE E10
Category Scale
Application date: June 1, 2026
Ethanol ratio 10%
Domestic mixing demand Millions of m³/year
The largest market for motorbikes and personal cars
Price of raw ethanol fluctuates according to agricultural products
The most notable point is that Vietnam is trying to reduce its dependence on imported petroleum amid strong fluctuations in world oil prices due to geopolitics and supply chain risks.
E10 is considered a "bridge fuel" before electric vehicles become truly popular on a large scale.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ethanol in E10 helps increase octane number, supports cleaner combustion and significantly reduces CO and HC emissions. Some studies show that the amount of harmful gases can be reduced by about 20–30% compared to traditional gasoline.
However, there is still a strong debate in the market about compatibility with used cars.
DEBATE TABLE ABOUT E10 GASOLINE
Supportive comments Concerned comments
Reduce emissions Avoid affecting rubber gaskets
Reduce dependence on mineral gasoline Older vehicles may be sensitive to ethanol
Support for ethanol agriculture Infrastructure upgrade costs
Increasing energy security Domestic ethanol sources are not completely stable
According to published studies, most cars manufactured after 1993 can use E10 normally without needing to adjust the engine. Manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and Ford also confirmed that many current car models are compatible with E10.
Another factor that attracts investors' attention is the "revival" of ethanol plants that have stagnated for many years. If E10 grows strongly, the chain produces ethaDomestic nol can return to a period of acceleration after a long period of difficulty.
TABLE OF GROUP INDIRECT BENEFITS
Impact industry group
Cassava chip agriculture Increases demand for raw materials
Petroleum logistics Increase transportation mix
Petrochemicals Increasing demand for additives
Energy logistics Infrastructure expansion
It is worth mentioning that the E10 game is no longer a small experiment but has become a national energy policy.
If implemented successfully, Vietnam will move closer to the biofuel model that Brazil, the US and Thailand have applied for many years.
But if ethanol supply is unstable or raw material prices increase sharply, future gasoline price pressure could still be an issue causing intense market debate.
