BSR accelerates green petrochemicals and clean fuels, ambitiously reaching the Top 5 in Southeast Asia

Is BSR quietly preparing for a "trillion-dollar transformation" before the global energy market changes completely?

While many oil refining businesses in Asia still rely almost entirely on traditional petroleum, BSR is publicly announcing plans to shift to petrochemicals, clean fuels, green materials and COβ‚‚ recovery. This is no longer a story of "mere oil refining", but a strategic step to avoid being left behind when the trend of electric vehicles, renewable energy and emission standards is increasingly tightened.

It is worth noting that BSR does not set small goals. This business wants to be in the Top 8 refining and petrochemical companies with the largest revenue in Southeast Asia before 2030 and Top 5 by 2050.

BSR's growth plan

Stage Main Objective Scale
2026 - 2030 Production of nearly 38 million tons of products Revenue of about 850,000 billion VND
2031 - 2035 Expanding petrochemicals and clean fuels Double-digit revenue growth
2036 - 2045 Develop green materials, capture COβ‚‚ Reduce dependence on petroleum
Vision 2050 Petrochemicals account for 25 - 30% of total products in the Top 5 of Southeast Asia

BSR's current biggest problem is that more than 97% of output still comes from traditional petroleum. This causes businesses to face huge risks if fossil fuel demand drops sharply after 2030.

In the region, "big guys" such as PTT Global Chemical of Thailand or PetRonas invested heavily in petrochemicals and green energy many years ago. If BSR does not transform quickly enough, the risk of losing its competitive advantage is completely real.

What is BSR doing to "escape" the traditional oil refining company?

Not only talking about strategy, BSR has begun launching a series of new transformational products:

Environmentally friendly plastic beads
Applications for household appliances, electronic components, automobiles, and high-tech industries.

PP plastic TF4035
Increased crystallinity, more durable, reduced carbon emissions when processing.

PP Compound GP4060 fiberglass
Applications in the automotive and high-tech electronics industries.

SAF sustainable aviation fuel
Meets international standards ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU to participate in the global supply chain.

Special military fuel
Jet A-1K for military aircraft, DO L-62 for submarines, gasoline A-80 for weapons.

SMFO sustainable marine fuel
Responding to the emission reduction trend of the international shipping industry.

Sulfur granules sulfur pastilles
Easy to transport, more environmentally friendly than liquid sulfur, expanding applications in fertilizers and chemicals.

One of the details that attracts investors' attention is the target revenue scale

Many experts assess that if the Dung Quat upgrade project is completed on schedule, BSR can completely change its profit margin by increasing the proportion of petrochemicals. This is a field with much higher added value than traditional petroleum sales.

What the market is observing is not just short-term profits but the ability of oil refining enterprises to "survive" in the era of green transition.

If successful, BSR can become a strategic petrochemical center of Vietnam, competing directly with complexes in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. But if you're slow, pressure from global emissions standards and the electric vehicle trend could make the old model obsolete very quickly.

The big question now is no longer "Will BSR grow", but "Will BSR have time to transform before the energy market changes the rules of the game?"
